Every number, explained.
Each stat in a CommishDesk Issue has a page: what it means, a worked example from a real fixture, and the code that computes it. All of it is free to read.
Concepts
One page for each stat: what it means, a worked example from a real fixture, and the code that computes it.
- All-play record
All-play asks how a team would have done if it had played everyone every week.
- Blowouts and the shape of the week
Blowout rule. A completed head-to-head game is a blowout when the loser's score is at most 0.65 times the winner's (BLOWOUT_RATIO, exposed as blowout_threshold).
- Coaching efficiency and bench regret
Optimal lineup. For each team and week the engine finds the highest-scoring legal lineup that could have been started from the players the team had that week.
- Draft grade
The grade is editorial, not the raw pick delta, which would over-reward late-round picks.
- Draft superlatives
Superlatives are the extremes of delta across the draft (see pick-delta-and-consensus).
- Draft team rows
Each team gets one row that joins three results: the board (what the team drafted), the consensus comparison and the grade (see draft-grade).
- Expected wins and luck
Expected wins is the number of games a team would have won if its scores had been played against the whole league each week.
- Lead angles and storylines
These two lists are the engine's own suggestions for what an issue could open on.
- NFL byes
A bye is a week an NFL team does not play.
- Pick delta against the consensus board
Every draft pick is measured against a consensus ranking of the same players.
- Playoff picture
The playoff picture is derived from the standings order and the league's declared bracket size, N:
- Points and scoring
Season totals. points_for is the sum of the team's weekly scores through the last regular-season week, each week rounded to two decimals.
- Positional runs and draft shape
draft_summary describes the shape of the whole board.
- Power rank and nudge
Model score. model_score is shown to three decimals, but model_rank is assigned on the unrounded score.
- Record and standings
A team's record is its wins, losses and ties in head-to-head games, folded from the week-by-week matchups from week 1 through the last regular-season week.
- Stakes and next week
Next week's preview pairs the teams that play each other and says what each game is worth.
- Streaks
A streak is the run of identical results that ends at the team's most recent game.
- Team history
history.weekly has one row for each week from week 1 through the issue week in which the team has a matchup row.
- Transactions and the trade market
The transactions block is the weekly market desk.
- Weekly leaders
The leaders block ranks players and lineups across the whole league for the week.
